This 7 yr. old child presented with a case of autoinoculation of her cheek after having been vaccinated with vaccinia.

Autoinoculation involves the spread of the vaccinia virus to another part of the vaccinee’s body, except the eyes, caused by touching the vaccination site and then touching another part of the body. It is usually mild in its severity.

This image was recieved in 08/2003 and provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Allen W. Mathies, MD, John Leedom, MD/ California Emergency Preparedness Office (Calif/EPO), Immunization Branch.
