Picture of glass microscope slide specimens were used by Dr. Joseph W. Mountin who was integral in the CDC organization’s inception. After WWII, Dr. Mountin was directly responsible for the redesign of the Office of Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA) into the Communicable Disease Center, which became an institution synonymous around the world with excellence in public health practice.
