Black and white wood engraving in Harper's Weekly, November 24, 1860 of the execution of Nathan Hale on the site of East Broadway, corner of Market Street, New York, September 21, 1776. He is standing as a man prepares him for his execution. Other men stand to watch. He disguised himself as a Dutch schoolteacher in order to spy and report British troop movements to the American troops.
