This view overlooks a Wankie, Rhodesian, now Zimbabwe, colliery where a small hospital and outpatient clinics are located.
As part of the CDC’s 1975 Marburg outbreak investigation, records of nearby clinics were examined for 3 years looking for severe hepatitis-like illness cases, clusters of undiagnosed deaths, fevers of unknown origin (FUOs), etc. Nothing was found.
