#6137 Picture of an Osborne 1 Laptop Computer by KAPD
Picture of the Osborne 1 laptop computer, first used at the CDC in 1981 and was considered the “first true portable computer.”

The Osborne 1 was designed with transportation in mind. It had to be rugged and able to survive being moved about. That’s one reason that the screen was made so small, for a larger and heavier screen would be more susceptible to damage.
