Free Picture: Doctor Putting On Hospital Gown in Johannesburg, South Africa
|
Description After putting on a hospital gown, this staff member of the Infectious Disease Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, added further protection by putting on double masks, and a balaclava type hat. (Slide 2 of 6; PHIL ID #’s 6600 - 6605) This Johannesburg, South African staff member, who assisted in treating the patients of the 1975 Rhodesian (now Zimbabwean) Marburg fever outbreak, had to maintain levels of extreme caution before coming into close contact with infectious disease patients able to transmit pathogenic contagion, which in this case were the Marburg virions. This image was created in 1975 and provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Dr. J. Lyle Conrad.
