Description
Scott Bauer photograph of acarologist Ron Ochoa (background) and botanist Eric Erbe to observe tiny mites in detail impossible with conventional microscopes and slide-mounting techniques. Liquid nitrogen is first used to flash-freeze mites on their hosts in their natural positions. They are using a low-temperature scanning electron microscope.
