Description This picture showed homes that were damaged after hurricane Hugo made landfall north of Charleston, South Carolina on September 21, 1989.
Winds of 135 mph, a tidal surge of 12-17 feet, and heavy rains killed dozens of people and caused 7 billion dollars in damage. CDC personnel were deployed to assist with communicable disease, and safety-related issues.
